LC Women's Volleyball is Region X Tournament Bound.

Volleyball Victory Secures Place in Region Tournament

After a late cancellation for Saturday's trimatch, Louisburg College volleyball team faced Bryant & Stratton College for the final conference show-down for NJCAA Region X. The match places a lot on the line for both teams, as a Hurricane loss would secure a tournament bid for the Lady Bobcats. After honoring the graduating sophomore class in their final home game of the season, The Lady Canes went on to defeat the Bobcats 3-2 at the Taylor Athletic Center.

Set scores were 25-23, 22-25, 23-25. 25-17 and 15-11.

Middle hitter Naudika Howard led the Hurricanes with 11 kills, marking a career-high and hitting percentage of .500. Offensive efforts were rounded out by right-side hitter Tiasha Frazier adding 9 kills and a team total of 13 aces. While the Hurricanes came out on top, the driving-force of Region X standings resulted in a 5-set battle between the two teams. The Hurricanes overcame an early 9-14 deficit in set one to tie the score at 18-18. The Bobcats quickly gained a lead at 22-18 before a series of serves from McKenna Griffin kick-started the Hurricane's set one victory with a 6-1 scoring run. Louisburg carried that momentum over in the second set early on, leading 22-18. The Bobcats refused to accept defeat, fighting back to a 25-22 set two victory. The third set between the two programs was tight early on, Louisburg was forced to call a time out with a 23-22 before a challenging serve receive rotation earned B&S the set victory. Down one set, the Hurricanes rallied in honor of their sophomore class in a crucial set. After fighting point for point, tied 14-14 mid-set, a Hurricane run of service aced kick-started an 11-3 score exchange and a set victory. In set five, the Bobcats took off to an early 8-4 lead. When it looked like the deciding set was over for the Lady Canes, sophomore defensive-specialist Alexis O'Neal rattled off a service series to keep the Canes in the match. Hope sparked for the Hurricanes, who battled back to tie the set 11-11. With the pressure on and the bid to Region Tournament on the line, the Lady Canes hammered down a resounding 15-11 final set, securing a 7th place Region Tournament placement and a stark improvement from 2019's 11th place finish for the sophomore class.

The Hurricane's volleyball team returns to action on Monday for NJCAA Region X Quarterfinals with conference opponent Cape Fear Community College. Match time is set for 6 p.m. in Wilmington, NC.
