Apprentice Quiets BSC in Seventh Inning Victory 9-17

HAMPTON, VA – BSC Baseball team traveled to the peninsula for a non-conference match-up against the Apprentice School at War Memorial Stadium this afternoon.

A Davis on the rubber for the Apprentice School, pitched through four innings, giving up eight hits and four runs.

Connor Hanes led off with a hit-by-pitch, to put runners on early in the first inning.  Chris Guiles moved Hanes to third with a double to left field.  With runners in scoring position, Kelon Wesley hit a two-run ground ball up the middle, scoring Hanes and Guiles.  BSC took the lead early 2-0.

Trent Kochheiser led things off for the Bobcats on the hill, allowing nine hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out one. 

The Apprentice School answered with five runs, carried the lead through six innings.  Top of the sixth innings, Kevin Urena doubled on a fly ball to left, scoring Kevin Russell from first base. 5-5  Trey Toppin walked to put two men on for the Bobcats.  Mason Velasquez hit a single to right, allowing Kevin Urena to score.  Connor Hanes hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Trey Toppin.  Mason Velasquez, aggressive on the base paths, stole home increasing the lead 8-5.  Evan Antonellis unable to advance to second on the play, tagged out to end the inning.

Time running out, the Apprentice School saw opportunity in the bottom of the seventh inning, Bryum took his base with a hit-by-pitch to lead off.  Jackson, Brito, and Brumfield all with singles to keep the Apprentice alive.  BSC saw the lead slip away, committed three errors with the offensive drive.   Not letting up, Brumfield up to bat, hit a three-run homerun to left to seal the win for the Apprentice School. 

Right-fielder, Brito lead the Apprentice offense going 3-5 on the day, with one RBI.  Brumfield, Burcham, Byrum, and Jackson all with multiple hits.  The Apprentice School totaled fifteen hits and seventeen runs.

The Bobcats host a three-game series against Patrick Henry CC this weekend at Trant Field.  Saturday game times are 1pm and 4pm.  Sunday game time is at noon.
