VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Bryant & Stratton College Baseball team finished 1-3 this weekend in a three-game series with Catawba Valley CC, first conference games of the season.
BSC scored early in the first inning, on a ground ball single by Kevin Russell. Catawba Valley answered with four runs in the top of the second, with singles hit by R Conner and double by C Watt. C Watt led the Red Haws with two RBIs.
The Bobcats held Catawba to four runs for the deration of game one. Josh DeFransico led the Bobcats offense with two hits in four at bats. Kelon Wesley drove in two RBIs and earning one hit. Kevin Urena hit a homer in the bottom of the fifth to seal the victory in game one. Seth Houston on the mound for the Bobcats, allowed five hits and four runs in seven innings, striking out ten. Final 4-6
GAME TWO – Second game of the doubleheader, was a battle to the end. Score tied up after three innings, stayed knotted with one run each until the top of the ninth inning. Catawba Valley's C Watt, full count, knocked a homerun to left field to push ahead 2-1. W Gordon singled on a line drive to left field scoring J Marcelli from second base, adding another run to secure the game 3-1.
Last chance to rally back, the Bobcats Kelon Wesley and Kevin Russell lead off with walks to begin the inning. Brelin Carroll and Mason Velasquez struck out swinging. Two outs and two men in scoring position, Kevin Urena took a walk to load the bases, with two outs. Conner Hanes's, patience at the plate, walks a run across the plate as he took his base. Score 3-2. Down to the wire, Josh DeFransico struck out looking, unable to drive in a run, the Red Hawks took the win. Final score 3-2
GAME THREE – The series tied one game each, the Red Hawks opened scoring on a single by T Campbell to left field. Catawba Valley's bats overpowered the Bobcats defense, scattering fifteen hits and eleven runs through seven innings. Unable to score in game three, the Bobcats managed to put three hits on the board. C Guiles, Kelon Welsey, and K Russell all with hits to lead the Bobcats offense.
Colton Hopkins started for the Bobcats, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out three. Trent Kochheiser, Graham Thompson, and Justin Towles came in for relief.
Trae Starnes lasted six innings for the Red Hawks, holding the Bobcats to three hits and zero runs, striking out one. Final score 11-0
The Bobcats are on the road for a match up against Paul D. Camp Wednesday March 14th. Game Time at 3pm
