BSC Men's Baseball Team Clinches Lead in the Seventh Inning Over Apprentice School
HAMPTON, VA – Bryant & Stratton College Men’s Baseball team opened their season with scrimmage games for The Hampton Cup at The War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, VA. Friday evening, BSC opened play against The Apprentice School for a 5pm game start.
BSC Bobcats were fired up in the first inning scoring on Mason Velasquez’s ground out. Kelon Wesley doubled and drove in two RBIs. The Apprentice School answered quickly with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. The Apprentice School did not go out without a fight, driving in yet another RBI on a single and going errorless the entire game.
Bryant & Stratton down 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning, when Trey Toppin homered on the first pitch, scoring three runs to clinch the win 6-4.
Colton Hopkins lead the bullpen with six strikeouts, only allowing four hits and three runs. Kelon Welsey led the Bobcats with 2 hits, going 2-3 on the day, and 2 RBIs. Trey Toppins lead the team with 3 game winning RBIs to seal the first victory of the season.
BSC opens Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against Stratford University at 12pm and The Apprentice School at 2:30pm. Sunday will wrap up The Hampton Cup with game time 2:30pm against Paul D. Camp in Hampton, VA.
