Game One: Bryant & Stratton College 4, Lenoir CC 2
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – This weekend, #5 Bryant & Stratton College clinched a playoff berth to Region X Conference Tournament in Danville, NC Friday May 11th - May 13th, with a three-game sweep against #8 Lenoir CC. Seth Houston on the mound for BSC, struck out twelve batters, while giving up four hits and two runs.
Game one knotted up 0-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when BSC hit four back-to-back singles to put runs on the board. Chris Guiles started things off with a single to left field. Next up, Mason Velasquez drove in Chris Guiles on a grounder to center field. Trey Toppins lined one to center field, advancing Velasquez to third. Connor Hanes drove in a Valesquez and advanced Toppin to second. BSC quickly up 2-0, when Garett Wente kept the hits going, hitting a hard shot to Ashlock, in left. The Lancers looked to the bullpen and entered Cross. Evan Antonellis grounded into a double play to end the inning. 2-0
Barnett got the ball for the Lancers, pitched five innings, struck out three and allowing two runs. Cross came into relief, throwing two innings, allowing two runs and three hits.
The Lancer’s, Baize, on a 1-0 count hit a solo homerun to left, adding a run on the board, in the top of the seventh. Barker grounds out to shortstop, for the first out. Seth Houston struck out two more to send the inning. BSC adds two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
Game Two: Bryant & Stratton College 7, Lenoir CC 1
Soaring high from game one, BSC struck early in the first, scoring two runs on a single by Kevin Russell and Chris Guiles. Chris Guiles drove in Russell on a single to shortstop. Wesley on thirdbase, caught stealing home on a throw to get Guiles advancing. Mason Valesquez walked. Chris Guiles advanced after tagging up on a fly ball hit by Trey Toppin. Guiles later scored on an error by second baseman, Daughtry. Connor Hanes grounds out to second to end the inning.
Through seven innings, BSC never relinquished the lead. Kevin Russell led the Bobcats offense going 3-4 at the plate and driving in two RBIs. Kevin Urena hit a long ball to left field in the bottom of the second.
Shane Davis led the Bobcats to a win over the Lancers, by striking out six batters and only allowing two hits and zero runs.
Gandy took the loss for the Lancers, allowing six runs and nine hits, while striking out three.
Game Three: Bryant & Stratton College 7, Lenoir CC 4
The Bobcats leading the series 2-0, opened play Sunday at noon for game three. The Lancers scored early, in efforts to avoid the sweep. Lowry scoring from a balk, called on pitcher Dillon Stimpson, to put up a run. Lowry on base from a walk earlier in the top of the second inning.
Dillion Stimpson led the Bobcats through six innings, striking out ten batters, allowing six hits and three runs.
Score tied up three all, in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Garett Wente singled to third. Jamal Bullard pinch runner for Garett Wente, advanced to second on a bunt single by Evan Antonellis. Looking to the short game again, Kevin Urena singles on a bunt up the middle scoring Jamal Bullard. Antonellis advanced to third on the play. The Bobcats took the lead 4-3. Kevin Russell stepped up to the plate, gets hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Kelon Wesley grounds into a double play to shortstop, scoring Evan Antonellis. 5-3 Chris Guiles continued the offensive charge, earning a RBI on a ground ball to third. Kevin Urena added another insurance run for the Bobcats, sweeping the Lancers 7-4.
Bagley took the loss for the Lancers, through six innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs, walking three and striking out four.
The Bobcats travel to Wake Tech next weekend for a doubleheader on Saturday and single game Sunday afternoon. Saturday’s game times are 1pm and 4pm. Sunday game time is at 12 noon.
