MEN'S BOBCATS SWEEP SEASON WEEKEND OPENER; DEFEATS CCBC DUNDALK 92-71
The Men's Bobcats team fresh off of a win the previous night against CCBC-Catonsville matched up against the host CCBC-Dundalk Lions. Edward Gordon started the Bobcats off with an assist to Jaleel Ferguson. The Bobcats were able to use their size and length advantage to get out to an early 8-2 lead in the first 2 and a half minutes of play and force a Dundalk timeout. The Lions were able to use their great 3 point shooting ability to keep the game close as the Bobcats led 27-26 with 7:25 remaining in the first half. The high paced, up and down style of play made for an exciting first half of basketball with both teams having their moments. A fast break dunk by Jaron Burnell ended the half and the Bobcats led 40-35 at intermission.
The Bobcats were able to carry the momentum from the dunk that ended the first half to go on a 9-3 run to open the second half of play. They led 49-38 with 16 and a half minutes remaining after a layup from Romello Anderson caused Dundalk to call a timeout. Dundalk was able to keep the game within 10 points over the next 5 minutes of play with 3 point shooting as the Bobcats led 57-47 with 12 minutes remaining. With 8 minutes to go the Bobcats led 62-52 extended the lead to 18 points in a little over a minute with an 8-0 run led by Kreighton Lambert who hit two 3 pointers. Over the last 7 minutes of play the Bobcats were able to control the ball and were able to increase the lead to 21. The final score was 92-71 in favor of the Bobcats who are now 2-0 on the season and travel to Vance-Granville Community College next in Henderson, NC.
Freshman Greg Heckstall led the way for the Bobcats scoring a team high 20 points and a team high 10 rebounds. His second double-double of the season. Returners Edward Gordon and Demitri Wilson both finished with 13 points. Trevon Wiggins ended the game with 9 points and was second in rebounds with 8.
