Weekend Recap | Men's Varsity & JV win / Varsity (10-1) moves up to #15, Women's basketball improve to (6-1)
The Lady Bobcats were back in action Saturday, Dec. 10 at home against Southwest VA CC after an almost 3 week lapse in action. The first quarter was back and forth with no team able to pull away, the Lady Bobcats led 17-16. The second quarter was relatively low scoring with neither team able to get much going offensively. The Lady Flying Eagles were able to tie it up at the half, 29-29. The Lady Bobcats came out of intermission and got hot on the offensive end with 22 points, while also holding Southwest to only 9 points in the quarter and led 52-38 going into the 4th. Though the Lady Flying Eagles made a run of their own in the 4th and cut the Lady Bobcat lead to single digits, the Lady Bobcats were able to hold on and come away with the 63-54 victory. The Lady Bobcats are now on a 5 game win streak and are 6-1 overall. Takeira Grant led the way for the Lady Bobcats with 15 points, Joselyne Meyers had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists, Malia McCoy also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, Ahmiah Jordan added in 10 points, and Ashanti Broughton rounded out the double-doubles with an impressive 10 rebound and 10 block performance. Shikira Perry also had 10 assists for the Lady Bobcats who as a team assisted on 26 of their 30 makes for the game, that's 87% of their total field goals for the game. Up Next the Lady Bobcats travel to Louisburg, NC to take on the Lady Hurricanes Wednesday, December 14th at 5:00PM.
The Bobcats JV team was back in action Saturday, December 10 at home looking to bounce back after a few tough losses on the road at Monroe College the week before. They took on the Washington Adventist JV Shock. The Bobcats JV got off to a quick start and went up 21-10 early on the Shock. The Bobcats JV was able to hold off the Shock run and maintain a 9 point lead going into the half, 41-32. The Shock cut into he Bobcat lead early in the second half to keep the game within 5 and eventually tie the game with 13 minutes remaining. Out of a time out the Bobcats JV was able to go on an 8-0 run to take a 55-47 lead. The Shock would keep it close the remainder of the game but ultimately the Bobcats JV would come out with the win at home, 77-74. Marcus Delbridge and Aaron Boyd led the way for the Bobcats JV with 20 points a piece and Trevon Tonsall added in 13 points as well for the Bobcats JV who are now 2-4 on the season. Up next the Bobcats JV host Monroe-Bronx on Saturday December 17th at 3pm at Maury High School.
The 17th ranked Bobcats rounded out their road trip Sunday Dec. 11th at Fayetteville Tech for control of 2nd place in the conference. With a slow start to the game by both teams the Bobcats were able to jump out first with an 8 point lead 10 minutes in. The Trojans would answer and keep the game close for the remainder of the half where the Bobcats saw a 38-35 lead. Much of the second half was back and forth with both teams taking leads in the contest. The Bobcats controlled the last 6 minutes of the contest and saw the game go from being tied to a 12 point win 79-67. The Bobcats are now 10-1 on the season which ties the best start in program history for them. De'Von Brown led the way for the Bobcats with 19 points, Zaire Rogers had 15 points and 9 rebounds, Logan Blair scored 14, and Jefferson Youngblood had 13 points. As a result, the Bobcats have moved up two ranks and are now 15th, up next the Bobcats host Monroe-Bronx on Friday December, 16th at 7pm at Atlantic Shores.
