COACH'S NOTES: LADY BOBCATS 2014-2015 INAUGURAL BASKETBALL SEASON (FINAL THOUGHTS)
For the first time ever, Bryant & Stratton would introduce their Lady Bobcats basketball team for the 2014/2015 season. This team was put together quick and had a lot of growing up to do. Practices were about learning and chemistry.
Our first scrimmage would be against a tough semi pro team that showed us what basketball was about (we lost by 40). The next scrimmage came down to the wire against another tough semi pro team but we were on the loosing end of that as well. The last scrimmage was against the apprenticeship school and the girls showed that they were catching on to what we were trying to build (they won their first scrimmage).
Through out the season like any other team/family we had our ups and downs. Winning our first game by a blowout..and losing our first game in overtime on the road. Games where we played our best basketball having 4 or more players in double figures and holding teams to 35 points...to games where we shot 23% from the field and got out rebounded by 15. We dealt with injuries...family problems...school work woes, but through it all, the women bounced back from every situation and set the bar for the teams to come.
As a first year team we finished 5th in the conference, put together 19 wins and 8 losses, were ranked 18th and 19th in the nation, had 4 people on the all region academic team (which is the most a school has ever had), placed 1 player on first team all region (who was 3 votes away from player of the year), and had 4 different colleges inquire about 5 players on the team just in our first year.
We are very proud of what this team has accomplished and we only look to improve just like we have done all year. Losing by 1 point in the first round of the region 10 tournament only leaves a sour taste in our mouths and a chip on our shoulders. The Ladies are already inquiring about how to get better in the off season.
