Lady Bobcats knock off Undefeated Cape Fear at Home, Historical Win Streak Increases to 12
Bryant & Stratton's Womens Basketball team stood on their home court welcoming an undefeated Cape Fear Sea Devils squad in what would be one of the toughest matchups of the season for both teams. The Bobcats only loss of the season came at Cape Fear's Carly Rae Classic against Division I, South Georgia Tech Jets team in November of 2022. They have long put that in the rear view mirror after rattling off twelve consecutive wins. Both Bryant & Stratton & Cape Fear now hold a record of 13-1 on the season after the Bobcats defeated the Sea Devils giving them their first loss of the 2022-2023 season.
At their best the ladies are a very high-energy team that lives on the defensive end and plays in a competitive atmosphere with heavy fan presence. The Bobcats started with their foot on the gas immediately taking a very efficient 21-13 lead to finish the First Quarter.
The Bobcats made it extremely difficult for the Sea Devils to earn any baskets while as a team they shoot over 40% from the field as well as from three-point. They didnt let small mistakes on Cape Fear's part go unexploited with swarming defense and composed shot making. At halftime everything was going in the right direction for the Bobcats up (42-20).
Heading into the second half is when the Sea Devils made their push to get back into the game but the Bobcats stood tall and matched every shot, finishing the Third Quarter with their largest lead of the night (61-38). Moving on to the fourth quarter is when the game slowed down for the Bobcats, they took their foot off the gas and wanted to eat as much clock as possible and we saw the Sea Devils erase the large deficit but by that time this game was all over ending with the Bobcats victorious (66-53)
Bryant & Stratton didn't finish as strong as they could have but you could sense they didnt want to make any mistakes and give Cape Fear any chances at a comeback. The ladies finished with a win and thats what matters, they have been impressive to say the least now taking the #2 spot in the Region 10 Conference rankings right behind the #1 Richard Bland Statesmen. Both the Statesmen and the Bobcats remain 8-0 in conference play. The Bobcats will look to remain hot when they face off against #1 come Febuary 1st on the road.
