Lady Bobcats Finish Road Stretch 2-0, Stay #1 in Conference
The Lady Bobcats traveled to face the Patrick & Henry Patriots in the first game of their weekend road trip 2/4/23.
Coming off their huge win against the Richard Bland Statemen, the Bobcats wanted to build from that and continue to add wins on the road before they come home. The first quarter was close with the Bobcats leading by two (18-16) and the start of the second quarter is when the Bobcats took their shot and ran with it expanding their lead to fifteen as they went into halftime up (45-30). In the third quarter things got interesting as we saw the lead increase to as many as tewnty-one points but a late run by the Patriots had the Bobcats lead cut to just eight (62-54) entering the final quarter of play. The game would get as close as five points before the Bobcats would buckle down and extend the lead and put it out of reach, gaining the victory (84-72).
The Lady Bobcats were led by #4 Ashanti Broughton with 25pts (season-high), 19reb (season-high & game-high), #5 Josceleyne Meyer with 25pts (season-high), 5reb & #1 Malia McCoy with 18pts (season-high), 4 reb
After the game Coach Parker was asked two questions:
What are your thoughts were on how important #4 Ashanti Broughton has been to the team? After she racked up another double-double today making it 15 double-doubles on the season and it seems like these girls are coming together more and more with each game, what's the mindset you try to instill in your players for them either when they're up big or down late, what makes this group special?
"Ashanti is just a ball player and the things she does at her size are amazing to watch" & "This group of players have just bought into what we are doing and they are great off the court with each other. I also think after their second game of the season when we lost to South Georgia Tech (ranked #1 for D1 women's JUCO) showed them that we could be really good. Late in that game we trailed by three before we lost." said Coach Parker.
The Lady Bobcats then traveled to face the Southwest Virginia Flying Eagles to end the weekend 2/5/23.
It was a close contest with a back and fourth first and second quarter with the Bobcats down four (28-32) going into halftime. The Bobcats came storming out of the game in the second half outscoring the Flying Eagles by seven in the third quarter (20-13) holding a three point lead entering the fourth quarter up (48-45). In the fourth quarter the Bobcats were their best defensively, holding the Flying Eagles to just four points in the quarter while adding on ten of their own, taking the victory (58-49) over a good Southwest team on the road.
The Lady Bobcats were led by #4 Ashanti Broughton with 18pts, 6reb, 5stl & #1 Malia McCoy with 16pts & 9reb
