South Carolina, SC - The Lady Bobcats returned home after posting a 2-1 record on the weekend with their lone loss coming in the first match on Friday in straight sets to Sandhills. They bounced back after that loss sweeping both USC Lancaster and USC Union.
At the Spartanburg Methodist College hosted event, the Bobcats came up short in their first match losing to Sandhills 17-25, 17-25, 24-26. The ladies kept pace with the perennial NJCAA D3 powerhouse in each set, eventually running into a string of errors in serve receive. Notable in the match though, was Destiny Holley, who just could not get the ball enough: she scored on 9 of 10 attempts with zero errors and added 4 aces.
The Friday evening matchup found the Bobcats some favorable matchups against USC Lancaster. Sophomore Rachael Humphrey led the Bobcats in both points scored (15) and digs (16), followed by Freshmen Noemi Marquez with 8 points and Hannah Williams with 14 digs. The Lancers’ defense was tough though, holding BSC to a .176 hitting percentage. The Bobcats earned the most points when Freshman McKinley Waid was at the service line. Final scores favoring the Bobcats: 25-19, 25-16, 25-20.
Saturday’s match started 30 minutes early as the morning competitions were all quick sweeps and the Bobcats kept the pace finishing off new NJCAA DI program, USC Union 25-10, 25-16, 25-11. The Bantams faced some lineup challenges after losing their starting Middle Blocker to a concussion in an earlier match. The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in each set behind the strong serving and defense of Freshman Libero Hannah Williams, scoring 12 points with her at the service line while adding 14 digs and 5 assists. Rainah Herdman’s best match of the weekend came behind 20 assists and 14 digs.
Weekend Totals:
Humphrey 25k (.266); Holley 23k (.538); Marquez 14k (.111)
Herdman 42assists, Waid 26 assists
Williams 35digs, Humphrey 28, Marquez/Herdman 27 each
