Dallas, TX - The Lady Bobcats took to the road August 24-28 with a scheduled tour of Texas and five matches over 4 days during the week. Due to a covid exposure and updated protocol, some teams canceled leaving the Bobcats to reschedule some of those matches and replacing others. The final scheduled consisted of a scrimmage Wednesday, two matches Thursday, and one on Friday.
Wednesday's scrimmage was held at Dallas Christian College, a 4-year athletic program in the UCCAA. The victory for the unofficial contest went to Dallas Christian in a close 4 set match. This was unfortunately sophomore Captain and Setter, McKinley Waid's only play of the tour as she left with injury.
Thursday, the Bobcats found matches versus Arlington Baptist University and Richland College. ABU, another 4-year UCCAA program made quick work of our ladies, taking the match in 3 straight sets. Sophomore Middle-Blocker Destiny Holley led the team with 7 kills. Sophomore Hannah Williams moved from Libero to Setter and was able to ink 3 aces.
In the second match Thursday, the Bobcats face Richland College. The Bobcats lost in 3 again, also losing Sophomore Middle-Blocker Noemi Marquez to an ankle injury. Marquez returned late in the match, but did not finish or play the next day. Hannah Williams was able to post 3 aces for a 3rd straight match.
On Friday, the Bobcats returned to Richland College for a rematch. The Bobcats rose to the challenge, stealing second set 25-23 and barely losing the third by the same score. Ultimately Richland was a little more consistent than the Bobcats with the adjusted lineup. Holley was able to score kills while Freshman Angelica Anishchenkov posted 5 aces on top of another 4 ace match from Hannah Williams.
The travel brings the Bobcats record down to a 2-4 overall; 2-3 in NJCAA matches. The Bobcats next match will be the home opener, hosting Wake Technical Community College on Saturday 9/4.
