Gaston College keeps showing improvement as it wraps up weekend tournament

Gaston College's beach volleyball team continued its weekend at Sandhills Community College with two losses on Saturday. The Rhinos' 1-4 losses to Spartanburg Methodist and Bryant & Stratton were improvements from previous 0-5 losses to each team as the team continues to trend in the right direction.

The Rhinos now prepare for their first home matches at their on-campus facility in next weekend's Rhinos Invitational. Gaston College will host Richard Bland on Friday and Sandhills Community College and Catawba on Saturday. The Rhinos also host Bob Jones on March 29.

"I thought the new pairings looked good this weekend," Gaston College coach Rachel Noreika said. "And I think every pair has upside potential that I'm excited about as we head into the last few weeks of our season. The team and I really looking forward to finally getting to plan at home this Friday and Saturday."

The No. 4 pairing of Bianca Bowland and Carli Phillips won its third straight with a 21-12, 22-20 victory over Spartanburg Methodist and a 24-22, 21-13 win over Bryant & Stratton.

"Leading the team this weekend was the No. 4 pair of Bianca Bowland and Carli Phillips, who didn't drop a single set on Friday or Saturday. They completed an unbeaten weekend after winning 21-5 and 21-12 on Friday" against Sandhills.
