Statesmen Suffer Defeat in Doubleheader Against Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team hosted Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Wednesday evening for a conference doubleheader with the Bobcats. After completion of the games, the Statesmen moved to 13-11 overall, and 8-3 in conference play after falling to the Bobcats 3-8 and 2-12.

 

In game one, Richard Bland came up short and could not keep pace with the Bobcats, dropping the game 3-8. The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the first inning after a single, scored two runs and a steal of home scored one run. The Bobcats added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after a walk and a single to center field, each scored one run. Patricia Lett provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Richard Bland with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Sydney Thompson and McKynzi Dawson also collected one hit for the Statesmen. Taylor Green stepped in the circle first for the Statesmen. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and five runs over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one. Ava Balli pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief. The righty allowed three hits and three runs while striking out two and walking two.

 

In game two, Richard Bland had trouble keeping up with the Bobcats in a 2-12 loss. Bryant & Stratton got on the board in the first inning after a steal of home scored one run. The Bobcats scored six runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Dawson provided pop in the middle of the Statesmen lineup leading with two runs batted in, going 1-for-2 in the game. Jaylin Daggins, Lett, Thompson, Arainna Manson, Green, and Dawson each collected one hit. Grace Urban started in the circle for Richard Bland. The pitcher gave up nine hits and 10 runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College Softball team next travels to Brunswick Community College on Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th for the three-game series with the Dolphins. Game one will take place on Friday at 4pm, and games two and three will take place on Saturday in a 12pm doubleheader.
