The Sandhills Community College volleyball team will be looking for its first win of a new season when it meets USC Sumter at noon on Saturday's final day of the Surry Invitational in Dobson, NC.
Freshman Lexi Allen was credited with 26 kills, 20 digs and three service aces in a 26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25 and 12-15 loss to Bryant and Stratton in the Lady Flyers' second match of day on Friday. Earlier they were defeated 22-25, 21-25 and 10-25 by Surry.
USC Sumter, a first-year volleyball program that will compete in Division I, Region 10, was defeated 3-1 by Bryant and Stratton on Friday.
The Lady Flyers appeared to be headed for victory after winning the first two sets against Bryant and Stratton of Virginia Beach, VA. Sophomore setter Camryn Lowe contributed a single-match career-high 43 assists. Freshman Abby Quick was the leader in digs with 24. Another freshman, L'Asia Jackson, added 10 digs and four aces.
In the season opener, the first two sets against Surry were close before the host team pulled away early in the third. Allen had 10 kills and 15 digs. Freshman libero Shelby Hull was the leader in digs with 12.
