Baseball Splits with Bobcats at New Home Field

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 5-30 overall, 5-23 in conference play after hosting Bryant & Stratton College (VA) this afternoon in a conference doubleheader. The Statesmen opened up play for the very first time on their new home field, Petersburg Sports Complex. President Sydow threw out the first pitch to start the day.

 

In game one, Richard Bland stole the lead late in the game in a 15-14 victory over the Bobcats. The game was tied at 14 with Richard Bland batting in the bottom of the seventh when Landon Scott doubled on the first pitched of the at bat, scoring the winning run for the Statesmen. Richard Bland was boosted by Myles Frazier who went 4-for-5 at the plate. Frazier singled in the first, tripled in the third, singled in the fourth, and doubled in the seventh. Richard Bland opened up an early lead in the second inning when Ashur Caraher doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. The Statesmen racked up 20 hits in the game. Kaleikaumaka Grebin, Frier, Carson Herod, Matt Stevenson, Caraher, and Nick Guerra each racked up multiple this in the win. Gavin Riley got the start for Richard Bland. The southpaw allowed two hits and six runs over one inning, striking out three and walking one.

 

In game two, Richard Bland watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover ina  5-9 loss in the nightcap. The Bobcats got things started in the first inning, scoring one run, and six runs in the second inning. Richard Bland launched two home runs on the day. Nick Guerra had a homer in the third inning and Matt Stevenson put one out in the third inning. Stevenson led Richard Bland with two hits in three at bats. Matthew Boyd toed the rubber for Richard Bland. The righthander went two innings, allowing seven runs on five hits, striking out and walking zero. Alex Chini, Austin Dansey, Connor Sakamoto, and Roman Borders each entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings, one and one-third innings, one inning, and one inning respectively.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Brunswick Community College on Saturday, April 22nd for games one and two of the away series. The doubleheader will begin at 12pm. Game three is set for Sunday, April 23rd at 12pm.
