Statesmen Battle Through 11 Innings With Bobcats, Take One From Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 17-19 overall, 12-16 in conference play after traveling to the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA) for a single, seven-inning game Wednesday afternoon, and traveling to Fayetteville Technical Community College over the weekend for the three-game conference series.

 

Against the Bobcats, Richard Bland got on the board first in the top of the first as Michael Duncan doubled on a line drive to center field, scoring Macho Santiago. Keegan Mahoney singled on a line drive and scored Michael Duncan, for a 2-0 Statesmen lead. The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, tallying one run, along with one run in the third to tie the game at two. The Statesmen took the lead once again in the top of the fourth when Jacob Challberg homered on line drive to left field. In the top of the fifth, Keegan Mahoney doubled on a line drive to right field, scoring

 

In game one against the Trojans, Richard Bland fell 1-5. Fayetteville Tech got on the board in the third inning after a groundout scored two runs. Carter Jones led Richard Bland with one run batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Jordan Ramsey went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Richard Bland in hits. Reece Hamilton took the loss for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher went seven innings, surrendering two runs on four hits, striking out five and walking one.

 

In game two, the Statesmen struggled to keep up, falling 2-7. A single by Jordan Ramsey put Richard Bland on the board in the top of the first. Fayetteville Tech took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a single scoring two runs. The Trojans scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth to hold onto the lead for good. Carter Jones, Ramsey, Evan May, and Macho Santiago each collected one hit for Richard Bland. Ramsey and Arthur Garnett each drove in one run for Richard Bland. Charlie Rohr started the game for the Statesmen. Rohr allowed five hits and seven runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking four.

 

In game three, Evan May collected three hits in five at bats, as Richard Bland defeated Fayetteville Tech 11-1 Sunday. May doubled twice in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning for the Statesmen. Richard Bland scored eight runs in the third inning on the way to victory. Eric Fila hit into a fielder's choice scoring one run, Keegan Mahoney doubled, scoring two runs, Reece Hamilton singled, scoring two runs, May doubled scoring two runs, and Macho Santiago singled, scoring one run. Richard Bland opened the scoring in the first after Jordan Ramsey tripled, scoring one run. Richard Bland tallied 14 hits in the game, and stole three bases in the game. The Statesmen turned one double play in the game. Santiago started the game for the Statesmen. The righty surrendered three hits and one run over three innings, striking out one and walking two. Andrew Bottari threw three innings of shutout ball in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits, striking out four and walking none.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 24th at 3pm.
