Baseball Earns Split with Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 4-26 overall, 4-19 in conference play after traveling to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) for a conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland defeated the Bobcats 9-5 after taking the lead late in the game. Richard Bland put up five runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Ashur Caraher and Nick Guerra and an error on a ball put in play by Kaleikaumaka Grebin. The game was tied at five with Richard Bland batting in the top of the seventh when Maddaux Childress hit a solo homer. Childress led the Statesmen offense with three hits in five at bats. Matthew Boyd started the game for the Statesmen. The righty lasted three innings, allowing four hits and for runs while striking out four and walking zero. Gavin Riley led Richard Bland to victory on the mound. Riley went four innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out three and walking one. Darren Osborne threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

 

In game two, Bryant & Stratton captured the lead early to defeat the Statesmen 1-12. Richard Bland struggled to contain the high-powered Bobcat offense. Ashur Caraher went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Richard Bland in hits. Reece Hamilton took the loss for Richard Bland. The righty went one-third of an inning, allowing five runs on one hit, striking out one and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Saturday, April 15th and Sunday, April 16th for the away, three-game series with the Trojans. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1pm. Sunday's single nine-inning game will also begin at 1pm.
