Bobcats Best Statesmen in Softball Action

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College softball team moves to 7-21 overall and 7-19 in conference play after hosting Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Wednesday afternoon in a conference doubleheader.

 

In game one, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 5-10 loss to the Bobcats. Bryant & Stratton took the lead on a groundout in the first inning. Richard Bland collected seven hits on the day. Shelby Godfrey and Emma Fleming each had multiple hits for Richard Bland. Casey Hart toed the rubber for the Statesmen. The lefty went four innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out three. Lily Curtis threw three innings in relief.

 

In game two, Richard Bland fell to Bryant & Stratton 7-13. Richard Bland struggled to put up runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Bobcats, giving up 13 runs. After the Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the fifth, Richard Bland answered with three of their own. Bryant & Stratton scored three runs on a home run, and a single. Richard Bland Bland then answered when Shelby Godfrey hit a solo homer, Casey Hart hit a solo homer, and Jenna Nicolski singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland totaled nine hits in the game. Godfrey and Hart each managed two hits to lead the Statesmen offense. Jayanna Richards toed the rubber for the Statesmen. The pitcher surrendered nine runs on eight hits over three and a third innings, striking out two and walking one. Lily Curtis and Maggie Linthicum entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next travels to Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, April 15th. The conference doubleheader will begin at 12pm.
