Women’s Basketball Suffers First Loss in Overtime Thriller

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #16 Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 17-1 overall, 10-1 in conference play after hosting the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Wednesday evening.

 

Richard Bland took an early, 23-20 lead through the first quarter, and carried a 41-36 lead into the break. The Statesmen remained on top adding 25 points in the third, but were outscored 13-21 in the fourth to force overtime. The Bobcats went on to outscore the Statesmen by three, to take home the conference win, and 1st place rank in Region 10.

 

Three Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win led by Jasmine Norman with 23 points. Norman hit 33% from the perimeter, and added five assists, four steals, two rebounds and one block. Auzhane Allard tallied her 11th double-double of the season. Allard grabbed 21 boards and scored 19 points for Richard Bland. Off the bench, Janiah Jones chipped in with 16 points, four steals, two assists and one rebound. Courtney Scott and Lauryn Bell matched at eight points and two steals each. Scott added six rebounds and Bell, five.

 

Richard Bland went 60.0% from the charity stripe, 44.0% from the field, and 38.1% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next hosts Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, February 4th for a PINK game. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
