Hampton/Virginia Beach, VA (November 10, 2014) – After a disappointing opening season 81-70 loss to CCBC-Dundalk, the Men's Bobcats Basketball Team bounced back with wins this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday bringing their record to 3-1.
Friday night (11/7), they faced a tough Hargrave team at the 2014 Roger Taylor Classic in Louisburg. Hargrave finished 2nd in the Nation last year in the Post-Grad Basketball Rankings. The Bobcats found themselves trailing almost the entire first half before taking a 50-45 halftime lead. Through the first eight minutes of the second half, the Bobcats were able to extend the lead to 71-51, holding Hargrave to just six points in that stretch. The Bobcats won the game 107-84.
Sophomore transfer Devon Mayo led the way with 20 points and 8 assists, Marquise Johnson and Jaleel Ferguson also added 16 points apiece. While Rahson Robinson contributed 11 points and 8 assists.
On Saturday (11/8), the Bobcats faced Caldwell Tech, who are ranked #6 in the NJCAA DIII polls. The Bobcats, fresh off of their first victory of the season came out confident and led the majority of the first half and ended the half leading 40-27. The second half was much of the same as the Bobcats were locked in finishing the game shooting 8-13 from 3 point range. The final score to the game was 71-53 with the Bobcats earning their second victory of the season.
Sophomore Demonte Burns led the way with 12 points, Timothy Hewett also contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds. Marquise Johnson had had 11 and Rahson Robinson added 10 points as the Bobcats had a balanced scoring approach in the victory.
On Sunday (11/9), the Bobcats traveled to Pitt Community College to face Stillwater Prep. The Bobcats found themselves in their toughest game of the weekend as a scrappy Stillwater team wouldn't go away no matter the deficit. The Bobcats led 49-43 at the half. The final, yet again saw the Bobcats victorious with the final score 93-86.
Freshman Timothy Hewett led the way with 19 points. Sophomores Marquise Johnson and Rahson Robinson added in 12 points apiece.
On Wednesday, November 12th, the Bobcats travel to Henderson, NC to face Vance-Granville CC before ending the week Saturday in the Region 10 Blastoff at Sandhills CC against Central Carolina CC.
