MEN'S BOBCATS DEFEAT CCBC CATONSVILLE IN SEASON OPENER 87-78
The Men's Bobcats opened up the season on the road in The CCBC-Dundalk Lions Mixer. Their first matchup was against The CCBC-Catonsville Cardinals. The Bobcats got off to a great start to the game jumping out to a 10-5 lead in the first 5 minutes of the game. An alley-oop from Jaron Burnell to Greg Heckstall at the 11:30 mark of the first half ignited a 9-0 run for the Bobcats who were able to extend the lead to 21-7 and caused Catonsville to call a timeout. Fouls and turnovers by the Bobcats kept the game relatively close in the last 10 minutes of the half where the Bobcats found themselves leading 43-27 and the end of the 1st.
An 11-4 run early in the second half led by Jaleel Ferguson helped extend the bobcat lead to 54-31 with 17 minutes remaining in the second half. Catonsville cut into the lead over the next 5 minutes of play due to 3 point shooting and free throws and the bobcats led 62-49 with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Over the next 8 and a half minutes the Bobcats were able to keep the Cardinals at bay and maintain a solid 79-65 lead with 4:30 remaining in the contest. A tightly whistled game by the officiating crew allowed for the Cardinals to keep the game within reach as they attempted 51 free throws and the Bobcats committed 36 fouls as a team. In the end the Bobcats were able to hold off the Cardinals and begin their season on the winning side with a final score of 87-78.
Romello Anderson led the way with 14 points for the Bobcats and Greg Heckstall finished with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds and was the leading rebounder. Mike Basnight finished with 9 points and Edward Gordon, Jaleel Ferguson, and Shyheim Draughan each finished the game with 8 points. Kreighton Lambert finished second in rebounds with 8 on the day.
