MEN'S BOBCATS DEFEAT VANCE-GRANVILLE COMM COLLEGE 97-55
The Men's Bobcats team, fresh off of two impressive performances on the road last weekend traveled to Henderson, NC Tuesday night. There they faced The Vance-Granville Community College Vanguards in their first conference game of the year. The Bobcats won both meetings with the Vanguards last year and looked to continue that streak on the road.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 6-5 lead on the Vanguards in the first 4 and a half minutes but were answered right back by Vance-Granville who led 11-7 with 13:47 remaining in the first. A steal and dunk by Romello Anderson with 10 and a half minutes remaining in the first half gave the Bobcats an 18-17 lead on the Vanguards who are giving the Bobcats their toughest test of the season. The final 5 minutes of the first half were dictated by the Bobcats who used an 11-3 run to take a 39-28 lead into half time.
Jaleel Ferguson and Kreighton Lambert got the Bobcats off to a hot start in the second half with 11 points combined. This pushed the score to 50-30 in the first two minutes of the second half and forced a time out by Vance-Granville. The Bobcats took a 68-34 with 11 minutes to go in the second half with Greg Heckstall coming alive, providing a scoring touch and Trevon Wiggins rebounding everything that came off the rim. The Bobcats size/ length advantage was able to wear down the Vanguards thin rotation early in the second half. This allowed them to control the glass and dictate the pace of the rest of the game. The Bobcats coasted to a 97-55 victory and are now 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in Region X Conference play.
Greg Heckstall Led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds, his third consecutive double-double of the season. Jaleel Ferguson also had 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Kreighton Lambert scored 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Trevon Wiggins led the way with 17 rebounds and also had 11 points. Alondo Jackson contributed 10 points to the Bobcats who put up their best scoring numbers this season.
