Virginia Beach, VA - In their season home opener, the Bryant & Stratton College Softball team hosted the Knights of Surry County Community College on Saturday, March 5th and Patrick Henry Community College Lady Patriots on Sunday, March 6th.
Game One: Bryant & Stratton College 1, Surry Community College 10
The Surry Community College Knights started their lead early in game one, which the Bobcats couldn't rally back. Despite the Bobcat's pitcher, Sierra West, throwing 22 first pitch strikes, the Knights offense prevailed with 12 hits, which included two home runs by Kelsey Craven and Rachel Cooke.
The Bobcats put up hits of their own in an effort to fight back with an RBI double in the bottom of the 4th, by McKayla Bartley and Jaylynn Scott, who led the Bobcats in hits, going 2 for 3 in the box. Despite West's strong appearance on the mound, the Lady Bobcats struggled defensively in their 10-1 loss.
Game Two: Bryant & Stratton College 2, Surry Community College 11
In Game 2, the Knight's offense continued to give them the lead and the Bobcats fell behind early on. The Knights started off in the 1st inning with a solo homer by Megan Atkins. Kyla Cummings started on the mound for the Bobcats, with one strikeout and one walk. In the 3rd inning, pitcher Rachel Smith came in as relief. Sierra West, Oakley Little, and Alexis Hudgens collected one hit each to lead to Bobcats offensively. Despite these efforts, the Knight's high-powered offense led the Bobcats to fall 11-2.
