Pensacola State College Invitational, FL - The BSC Softball team starts each season with a 900 mile trip south to Pensacola, Florida to participate in the Pensacola State College Invitational. For the first time in three seasons, Friday’s double header was canceled due to rain and the Lady Bobcats played on Saturday, February 5th against NJCAA DI powerhouse schools, Pensacola State College followed by Coastal Alabama South.
With a noon start time, Pensacola took a strong lead that was hard to recover. Bryant & Stratton struggled against Pensacola’s offense and pitching from Avery Beauchaine, who allowed zero hits during the 18-0 game.
MyKayla Cox started on the mound, with one strike out in the bottom of the second. Rachel Smith, a freshman from Portsmouth, VA made her first NJCAA mound appearance for the Bobcats in the 4th inning. Each of the Bobcats Freshman, Sierra West, Rachel Smith and Lexie Hudgens started in this tough game, and Lexie Hudgens made a fielder’s choice defensive play that helped keep the Bobcats working hard to be competitive as well as tacked on her first stolen base of the season.
The Lady Bobcats played Coastal Alabama South in the second game of the series. Sierra West led off in the circle for BSC allowing only two hits and four runs. Anna Mackie then had her chance in the circle for two innings followed by relief from Kyla Cummings. Working through beginning season jitters and minimal time outdoors before this invitational, the Lady Bobcats were not able to gain the W, losing 10-0.
Despite that score, Kyla Cummings, pitched one inning, striking out two in her relief. Kendall Field had the lone hit in the second game and five putouts from center between both games.
