Virginia Beach, VA - This past weekend the Bryant and Stratton Bobcats hosted the Florence Darlington Technical College Stingers on Friday, April 8th and the Fayetteville Technical Community College Trojans on Saturday, April 9th. With foreseen rain holding off, both days turned out to be great days for some great softball games.
In game 1 on Friday, the Bobcats struggled to find their groove in their 11-2 loss against Florence Darlington. Leading in first pitch strikes with 10, Mykala Cox toed the pitching rubber for Bryant and Stratton going three innings and striking out 3 as well. Anna Mackie would eventually come in for relief throwing 2 innings. Neither team committed a single error, with Bobcats’s Alexis Hudgens having four chances in the field, the most for the team. Sierra West led Bryant and Stratton in the box with 2 hits in 3 at bats. Ultimately, the 13 hits racked up by the Stingers, lead by Watson, helped them secure their win against the Bobcats. In game 2, the Sierra West started strong on the mound for the Bobcats, and then was relieved by Anna Mackie, who had one strikeout, to finish the game for the Bobcats. Both Anna Mackie and Alexis Hudgens contributed to the 2 hits from Bryant and Stratton with Mackie batting one in with a RBI to put the Bobcats on the board. The Stingers brought heat into the batters box with 10 hits, scoring each of them, leading the Bobcats to fall 10-1.
The Bobcats came out strong and continued to fight both in the box and on the field in their games against Fayetteville Technical Community College on Saturday. Game 1 against the Trojans was a fight to the end, as the Bobcats lost the lead late in an 11-10 defeat. Fayetteville Technical Community College trailed 9-7 in the top of the sixth inning when Alea'Ah Graham homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring four runs. Despite the loss, the Bobcats did collect 14 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Fayetteville Technical Community College had 15 hits on the way to victory. Bryant and Stratton notched three runs in the fourth inning. Bryant & Stratton College / Bobcats big bats were led by McKayla Bartley, Kendall Field, and Kyla Cummings, all driving in runs in the inning. Anna Mackie was in the pitcher's circle for Bryant & Stratton College / Bobcats. Mackie allowed 15 hits and 11 runs over seven innings, striking out one and walking none. The Bobcats collected 14 hits. Andrea Booker, Mackie, Alexis Hudgens, Bartley, and Cummings all had multiple hits for the Bobcats. Booker led the Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases. In game 2, the Bobcats continued their fight after falling behind by 6 runs in the 4th inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 7-5 defeat to the Trojans. The Bobcats scored four runs in their comeback attempt on a single by Kyla Cummings in the sixth, a error in the sixth, a groundout by Jaylynn Scott in the seventh, and a single by Kendall Field in the seventh. Bryant and Stratton scattered 8 hits throughout the game, rallying most of them during their fight to comeback against the Trojans. Kyla Cummins and Andi Booker both had two hits to lead the Bobcats.
