Virginia Beach, VA - On Sunday, the Lady Bobcats fought multiple injuries, with at least three players having to adjust as they played secondary and tertiary positions. Despite this, the Bobcats kept fighting and forced Patrick Henry to play hard for two full games.
Game One: Bryant & Stratton College 0, Patrick Henry Community College 7
In game 1, BSC took a 7-0 loss against the Lady Patriots as they had a tough time generating runs. Madison Lemons led off on the pitcher's mound for the Lady Patriots, surrendering zero runs and one hit with 13 strikeouts. The Bobcat's pitcher, Sierra West, fought all 7 innings on the mound, allowing 9 hits and striking out one. McKayla Bartley, who led the Bobcats in hits, tried to rally the Bobcat's offense in the 7th inning with a line drive double, but it just wasn't enough for the Bobcats to pull out the win.
Game Two: Bryant & Stratton College 3, Patrick Henry Community College 9
The Lady Patriot's offense remained strong and led them off early against the Bobcats. Rachel Smith took the mound first for the Bobcats, but was soon relieved by Anna Mackie, who threw 19 first pitch strikes and had 2 strikeouts in the game. The Bobcat's offense and defense showed through this game. Keeping the Lady Pats from touching home for three innings as well as by scoring 3 runs, 2 of which were batted in by Mckayla Bartley when the team rallied in the bottom of the fifth. Bartley tied Patrick Henry's Jaden Hurdle in RBIs. Kendall Field, Alexis Hudgens, Jaylynn Scott and Anna Mackie each collected one hit, keeping the game close for the Bobcats.
Head Coach Genevieve Weaver stated that, "The fight and effort the team displayed this weekend with so many injuries, their quick adjustment to position changes, and the support they gave each other till the very last pitch, gives me confidence that this team has the potential to make this season the best one yet."
