Women’s Basketball Falls in Round 2 of Conference Tournament, Bringing Amazing Season to an End
3/9 vs Wake Tech
The Bryant & Stratton Lady Bobcats defeated the Wake Tech Community College Eagles in round 1 of the Conference Tournament on Thursday (53-35).
If you watched the start of the game then you were on the edge of your seat after the Bobcats scored the lowest amount of points in a quarter that they had this whole year with just four, but would find themselves only down five at the end of the first (4-9). The second quarter you relaxed a bit more as the Bobcats found their footing and rattled off a twenty-one point quarter while holding the Eagles to their lowest quarter in just seven points. Once the Bobcats gained the lead, they wouldn't look back and they would extend their lead to as high as twenty-two and put the Eagles away before the start of the fourth quarter winning (53-35).
The Bobcats would hold the Eagles to 0% from three & 25% from the field, while the team was led by #4 Ashanti Broughton with 10pts, 12reb, 5stl (double-double) & #1 Malia McCoy with 13pts, 8reb.
After defeating the Eagles, the ladies would move to round 2 and face the Catawba Valley Community College Red Hawks on Friday.
3/10 vs Catawba Valley
The Bryant & Stratton Lady Bobcats fell to the Catawba Valley Community College Red Hawks in round 2 of the Conference Tournament on Friday bringing their season to an end.
This Bobcats fought hard but couldn't contain the Red Hawks shooting in this one at they shot just under 50% from the field and 45% from three. The lead at halftime would have the Bobcats down ten (24-34). The game would get as close as six before the Red Hawks would respond each time with a run of their own keeping there foot on the lead which would give them the victory (54-64) over the Bobcats.
The Bobcats had four players reach double-digit scoring: #1 Malia McCoy led the way with 13pts, followed by #4 Ashanti Broughton with 11pts, 14reb (double-double), #5 Joscelyne Meyers with 10pts, & #15 Shikira Perry with 10pts.
*#4 Ashanti Broughton finishes with 18 double-doubles, the most in Bryant & Stratton Women's Basketball history.
We want to congratulate the Women's basketball team on an outstanding, record setting season!
This season the Lady Bobcats finished with a regular season record of 22-4 & a final record of 24-5, they finished 1st in conference at 16-2, undefeated 11-0 on the road, attained a record setting 14 game win streak & had two players received All-Region First Team Honors!
