Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor Nationals at Liberty University
Lynchburg, VA – Men’s and Women’s Track & Field traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia to compete in the NJCAA Indoor Championships this year. Liberty University is one of the few complexes in the nation that offers a six-lane, 200-meter, hydraulically banked oval track. The Region X Indoor meet returned to the east coast for the first time since 2016, when Winston-Salem, NC hosted at the JDL Fast Track. In 2021, the event will return to Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS.
Bahiyyah Barnes finished fourth in the 600-meter finals (1.36.50). Relay team, Barnes, Idugboe, Swinton and Wilson placed eleventh in the Distance Medley Finals (13.18.91). Meanwhile in the Long Jump, Tania Dunbar finished seventh at a distance of (5.51m). Elizabeth Taylor, Athlete of the Year, finished third in the Pentathlon with 3151 pts. Jada Venters finished sixth with 2935 pts.
On the Men’s side, freshman Ivan Austin, local from Virginia, placed tenth in the Shot Put Finals at a mark of 15.65m. As the Bobcats wrap up the 2020 Indoor season, the NJCAA announced Indoor T&F honors at Nationals and two of our very own were awarded top awards.
On International Women’s Day, Lady Bobcats Track & Field star freshman Elizabeth Taylor was announced “Women's Field Athlete of the Year” by the NJCAA Track & Field Coaches Association. Also, huge Congratulations to our Head Coach Claude Toukene for being honored “Coach of the Year” in the Atlantic Region by the NJCAA Track & Field Coaches Association!
