Newport News, VA - The Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats hosted the Surry Community College Knights on Saturday, February 6th in a morning match, that lasted well beyond the two-hour mark, as Surry got the best of the Lady Bobcats in a deciding 5th set to take the whole match 3-2.  The final scores were 25-23, 26-24, 24-26, 21-25, and 12-15.

BSC jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first set 19-10 before a wild run by Surry to close out the game.  The same thing happened in the second set, as the Bobcats blew a 5-point lead twice (15-10 and 24-19).  The Bobcats were able to hang on at the end in both sets with blocks from McKenzie Kilgallon & Destiny Menier in set 1 and a block from Destiny Holley in set 2.  Noemi Marquez led the Bobcats with 5 kills in the first set, Holley and Rachael Humphrey had 3 apiece in the second.

The third set was slow and close the whole way with both teams contributing errors in serves, blocking, and ball-handling.  The Lady Bobcats managed to lose by only 2, after giving up 10 turnovers: 5 BHE’s, 4 attack errors, and 1 blocking error.  BSC was held to only 5 kills in the set.

The fourth set found #7 and #13 heating up.  #7 posted a match high 7 aces and added 12 kills.  #13 led the match with 15 kills.  The Knights finished the set by the widest margin of the day, winning 25-21. 

The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth set which was quickly erased by three aces from the Knights.  Points traded evenly until Surry posted a 3-point lead at 9-6 that BSC never recovered from.  The Lady Bobcats were aced 4 times in the 5th set, added 2 BHE’s, and posted 2 service errors including the final match point miss.  The Lady Bobcats only passed a 1.4 on the match with 15 reception errors (aces for the Knights).
