Dobson, NC - The Lady Bobcats started off their season with a road trip to Dobson, North Carolina as the Knights of Surry hosted a tournament over September 19 and 20.
The Bobcats kicked off their run in the tournament in the second match of the event versus the new program out of Sumter from the University of South Carolina programs. The Bobcats defeated USCS by a score of 3-1, going 25-20, 19-25, 25-12, and 25-19 in set scores. Sophomore Noemi Marquez led the Bobcats with 15 points. Marquez scored 13 kills on 18 attempts with no errors. Destiny Holley added 15 kills while Freshman DeAndra Moore led the team defensively with 15 digs.
Our ladies inked back to back victories on the night by defeating Sandhills Community College in the match immediately following the opener. The Bobcats fell behind, dropping the first two sets 24-26 and 20-25 before screaming back to win three in a row 25-22, 25-21, and 15-12. The match was almost all defense as both teams posted over 85 digs, with DeAndra Moore posting a match high of 27. Sophomore Destiny Holley led the Bobcats again with 18 kills.
The final match was played Saturday morning as the two undefeated teams faced off. The Surry Knights ultimately defeated our Bobcats 3-1 with scores 25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24. Noemi Marquez and Destiny Holley held a strong net play: Marquez with 5 blocks; and Holley hitting .412. Michelle Thao led the Knights with 17 kills on 51 attempts.
The Lady Bobcats continue on with a road trip to Texas to face Dallas Christian, Arlington Baptist, and Richland Community College.
